Internship Experiences

During my time spent at AIU London, I had many memorable experiences. Each day that passed was one of the greatest days of my life. There are almost too many wonderful memories to even speak of. However there was one aspect of studying abroad which has made a lasting impression, my internship at Carden Cunietti.

Carden Cunietti was where I did my second internship at AIU. Carden Cunietti gave me such an amazing working experience, unlike any other place I had worked at before. The atmosphere alone was much different from that in which I was used to. My bosses, Eleanora and Audrey were so eager to teach me the ways of the field. They appeared to be very pleased with their profession in life as well.

I started off with minimal responsibilities, such as selecting a fabric for a project, but eventually they allowed me to take on projects entirely on my own. Eventually I was doing practically everything for the company. The idea that I was given so many repsonsibilities in such a short period of time made me realize that I must be doing something correct as an intern, which was always something I had been concerned over in previous jobs. They gave me so many responsibilities which I thought were not even possible for an intern.

Besides letting me take part in major responsibilities for the business, I learned so much about the interior design industry. I was able to see how a high end residential business was conducted, along with some of the problems that come with having the business. Both owners showed me the benefits and negatives about owning your own small residential design firm.

From my work experience at Carden Cunietti, I not only see that I will enjoy my future career, but also that I would like to have a business similar to the one I worked for. Having a business with just three designers, and not allowing it to expand ensures that job duties of the owners do not become mainly authoritative overseers. Also, from what Audrey and Eleanora said, running a business with another friend is much less lonely than it is running one on your own. The two became more recognized once they teamed up together.

My two bosses, along with their assistant designer, each treated me as if I was another designer, not just an ignorant intern. I enjoyed working for them so much that going to work each day was not a chore, I was just doing a hobby that I enjoyed. Becoming so involved in each individual project just helped me to realize how much the field of interior design is truly my passion in life.
